Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been shown to be extremely complementary for post diabetic wound surgery patients by helping to speed up recovery and handle other afflictions and ailments. The increased oxygen in the blood boosts oxygen flow to the wounds and promotes healing.
Studies have shown that hyperbaric oxygen therapy has increased healing by an average of 25 percent in appropriate patients, reducing tissue hypoxia, edema, and increasing angiogenesis and antimicrobial effects.
The FDA has approved the use of HBOT to treat non-healing diabetic foot ulcers. Although not a “cure all” treatment, it is an adjunct therapeutic modality to aid in the revascularization and critical limb ischemia efforts of these debilitating wounds.
