Ongoing studies have been conducted regarding the effects of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) on emphysematous patients and the respiratory function.
Due to emphysema’s cardiac, hepatic, renal and neurological sequelae HBOT is a safe and effective treatment for individuals suffering from the effects of this disease.
It is concluded that hyperbaric oxygen therapy for postbronchitic emphysema should be considered as a choice for quick, effective resolution of alterations in hematosis and the organic sequalae deriving from respiratory insufficiency. In association with other therapies (antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs), it is also capable of stopping or usefully delaying the disease’s development.
